Meet The Coaching Team
After a extensive playing career at Shirley Rugby Club, I then shifted my focus to coaching firstly as a player/coach with the Div 2 side then 2 years as the Shirey Colts coach. I then moved to coaching the Sydenham Colts for a year and then was sumound to the wave by Razor and John Tainui, whom were the Div 1 coaches at the time. Having attended Shirley boys high with many of the wave it was an easy transition to make. One year coaching the Div 2 side then moved into the Div one set-up. Initially as a skills and backs coach, I then took over as Head Coach from Razor and have been coaching the Wave since then. We have had many highlights since then including winning the plate!  Having been a Sumner Wave coach for the past 6 years, I am excited about the current crop of players and management that will take our club into the future.  This year I was successful in being named the Canterbury Maori Head Coach and have a real passion for Maori Rugby! Rugby coaching goal is to become part of the Maori All Blacks environment.

Personal Interests:  Being Maori, my whanau is number one to me. Any time I can get from my busy coaching commitments is usually spent with my partner and three children. I am also heavily involved in Canterbury and NZ Touch and am currently the Canterbury Mens coach. My other passion lies beneath the surface as a free diver hunting and gathering for my whanau and elders in the local eastern community.

Occupation: I first started teacher at Aranui High School. After 6 years I then began teaching at Te Kura Whakapumau (Maori emerson) school in Waltham where I am currently still teaching in the areas of Art and PE.

I am currently general manager of an engineering business in Bromley which has extensive machining and manufacturing capability.  I am keen on fighting the ageing effect with weights and road cycling.  Need  to make sure that I earn my beer.  My wife and I enjoy traveling, movies and home improvement .. she has had enough of Rugby but I have not !

Colts Forwards Coach
Following St Andrews College 1st XV I played club rugby to Premier level at Shirley before moving to HSOB in Palmerston North where I also represented Manawatu Colts and played a few games for Manawatu NPC side. Upon returning to Christchurch I played for Kirwee Div 1 in the Canterbury Combined Competition where I also represented Mid Canterbury and Canterbury Country. Following this I made the move to the Wave and played in the team that reached Div 1 for the first time. I then moved to Auckland and after a brief stint at University, I decided to retire to focus on my career and my young family.

After 5 years in Auckland I returned to Christchurch in early 2016 and have decided to help coach the Sumner Colts. This is my first year coaching but with an extensive and varied playing experience combined with my senior leadership experience as a General Manager , I am looking forward to being able to give back to a sport and a club that has invested in me and provided a lot of enjoyment. My primary focus with the colts side with be with the backs given my playing experience as a full back and first five.
