International Players

Every year we host players from all around the world. Some simply want to immerse themselves in Kiwi culture by having a couple of games of footy. Others are looking to expand their skills and experience a different style of rugby as they chase higher honours in their own countries. Regardless of their goals, each and every one of them contributes to the rich culture at Sumner Rugby.

"The brotherhood within the Wave is something that will stick with me forever."

Nathan earle   |   Saracens, england national team 2017/18

"The players, the location, the rugby, the coaches, the weather - I just loved everything about it"

Ross McCann   |   scotland sevens 2017/18

"As an international player it can be daunting in a new country and at a new club. But one Thursday sunset session at Mac Bay and a match on the hallowed Sumner turf with your brothers and you just know it's a place that’ll be tough to leave. The entire community is behind the club and what better way to live your life than playing code with the boys of the Sun, Surf, Sea and Sand!"

Tom crozier   |   england u20, canterbury mitre 10 cup

"Over the course of just one season my game developed and evolved beyond measure.

João Vasco Côrte-Real   |   portugal national team 2017/18

"There is so much that I loved about playing there. You're immediately welcomed into the rugby family and community of Sumner, something that thrives with hard work, dedication and good fun! The club does such an awesome job at giving our players the best opportunities to excel in rugby and also find work and be sorted with a place to live. I have had no better single experience related to rugby than singing after a win at the laz - it was just awesome"
