New Sumner Wave Finnish prop Kalle Valimaki was nominated and won the award for Rugby Player of the year in the prestigious Finnish National Sports Awards.
Newshubs Annabelle Tukia interviewed Kalle at St Leonard's square and that story will run Sunday 24th on Super Sports Sunday.
Valimaki, a chef in the Arts Center has recently become a permanent resident and after making a brief debut off the bench against Marist in 2020 is back to make an impact in 2021.
He started playing rugby at 18 and after being urged by his kiwi coach in Finland to travel and play in New Zealand he landed at Methven RFC in 2017.
He has spent 4 years toiling at loosehead for Methven and rewards came in 2020 as they were able to win the Watters Cup.
